Screw the threaded bar to its bracket, referring to the number indicated. Attention: the thread of the bar marked with the number 0 is left while the thread of the bar marked with the number 1 is right.
Open the locking screws on the central knob and insert the smooth part of the threaded bar and check that it is firmly screwed with the number (0,1) corresponding to that of the knob.
Tighten the locking screws.
Check if turning the knob clockwise or anti-clockwise the brackets move away or closer.
Apply two traction stirrups to the distractor as shown in the photo.

The need for techniques for fracture reduction is often felt in veterinary orthopaedics and traumatology (1, 2). Nevertheless, the development of such techniques has not been very intense, particularly when compared with developments in human orthopaedics.

In veterinary medicine, intra-operative skeletal traction has not been commonly used for fracture reduction (1, 3, 5, 6), despite its widespread application and significant benefits in human orthopaedic surgery.
